Es begann in USA mit De Forest und seinem "Spherical Audion" und dem "Tubular Audion".

Danach gab es neben den Tubular Audions noch eine Vielzahl ähnlicher Varianten.

Es gab eine unendliche Anzahl von Herstellern und Marken. Diesen sind teilweise eigene Seiten gewidmet.
