This is a Thomson CSF Nocticon TH 9659 low-light, silicon intensified target camera tube.
Light levels required by conventional vidicons prevent their use in numerous industrial-television applications. These limitations do not apply to the Thomson CSF Nocticon. Its preforms exceptionally in low-light conditions. The Nocticon has an S-20 type photocathode and a silicon-diode array target, scanned by an electron beam from a gun similar to that of a regular Vidicon.
Some features of this structure include:
- Wide spectral response.
- Sensitivity of 300 mA/lm.
- Low dark current.
- Low lag.
- Large dynamic range.
The Nocticon's design also provides high resistance to damage by intense light and severe environmental conditions
